Fabutan Is Thinking Pink, Raising Money For Breast Cancer Research
Canada’s Fabutan Sun Tan Studios kicked off its 5th annual “Ray of Hope” campaign to raise money for breast cancer research on Oct. 1, coinciding with the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month. This year, more than 22,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Canada and 5,300 will die from it. To provide the one in nine Canadian women and families affected by breast cancer with a “Ray of Hope,” Fabutan clients will be able to purchase an additional 125 minutes on their tanning packages for $10, which will be donated to the Vitamin D Society for breast cancer research. Clients also will receive a special “Ray of Hope” bracelet to commemorate their contribution. The Vitamin D Society provides Canadian researchers with the opportunity to conduct research trials on the relationship between increased vitamin D levels and breast cancer. Over the course of the “Ray of Hope” campaigns, Fabutan has contributed more than $250,000 to the fight against breast cancer; this year’s goal is $75,000. “Each October, Fabutan studios across the country have worked together to support research towards finding a cure for this disease,” says Fabutan President Doug McNabb. “In celebration of our fifth year, we are spreading the word to all our customers to take advantage of purchasing tanning packages and donating to such a worthy cause. I’m confident this year’s 'Ray of Hope' campaign will be the most successful one yet.” For more than 26 years, Fabutan has encouraged a balanced, moderate approach to indoor tanning. The company focuses on educating the customer to maximize the benefits of tanning while minimizing the risks of too much or too little UV exposure, and emphasizes avoiding overexposure and sunburn. Fabutan is Canada’s largest indoor tanning company, with 154 franchises and more than 700 employees.
